Floods archive

GDACS monitors floods in partnership with the Dartmouth Flood Observatory, now hosted by the University of Colorado.

New methodology (1 September 2010)  The current system is based on floods detected by passive microwave remote sensing, which are then validated using media reports, moderate resolution satellite imagery (MODIS) or other sources. (Previously, media reports and specialized websites were compiled on a daily basis into a flood list.)

For each flood, humanitarian impact is recorded including affected population. Each 15 minutes, GDACS collects - in an automatic way - media reports, damage maps, ReliefWeb situation reports and more about the floods.

Click on the flood id to zoom the map, or on 'report' to see more details.
