A 6.6 magnitude earthquake has struck off Vanuatu . The earthquake hit north of the island of Toga at about 7am local time Wednesday morning, according to Geosciences Australia. However, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported the quake was a magnitude of 6.8. The centre advised “no action is required” as there’s no tsunami threat.

WELLINGTON, Jan 16 (Reuters) - An earthquake of 6.6 magnitude struck off the coast of Vanuatu in the Pacific ocean on Wednesday, at a depth of 46.9 km, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami threat from the quake.

A strong earthquake struck off the coast of Vanuatu this morning but does not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii. The preliminary magnitude 6.6 quake struck at 8:06 a.m., 65.2 miles east-southeast of Sola, Torba, Vanuatu at a depth of 29.1 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
