Giant earthquakes reoccur at relatively regular intervals, scientists have found by analysing sediment cores from Chilean lakes. Taking smaller earthquakes also into account, the repeat interval becomes increasingly more irregular to a level where earthquakes happen randomly in time, researchers said.
