  • A new tropical cyclone, named BIPARJOY formed over the Arabian Sea on 6 June and started moving north towards north-western India and the neighbouring south-eastern Pakistan. On 12 June at 0.00 (UTC), its centre was located over the sea approximately 480 km south of the Narayan Sarovar City in northern Gujarat State, India, close to the border with Pakistan, with maximum sustained winds of 157 km/h (tropical cyclone).
  • BIPARJOY is forecast to continue north-northeastward on 13-15 June, slightly weakening. After that, it is expected to make landfall over northern Gujarat on the afternoon (UTC) of  15 June, with maximum sustained winds up to 130 km/h (tropical cyclone).
  • Over 13-16 June, heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over Gujarat State, India and the neighbouring south-eastern Pakistan.

  • Tropical cyclone BIPARJOY is moving north over the northern Arabian Sea towards western India and neighbouring south-eastern Pakistan, with maximum sustained winds of 167 km/h (tropical cyclone). BIPARJOY will turn north-east and will make landfall over an area between Mandvi Town (Gujarat, India) and Karachi City (Pakistan) on 15 June.
  • For the next 48 hours, heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over most of western Gujarat State and south-eastern Sindh Province. Red warnings for heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are in effect over western Gujarat State. The majority of ports in Gujarat have raised the great danger signal, while railway services have activated disaster management set-ups.
  • About 15,000 people have been evacuated from coastal areas of Kuch and Sourashtra to safer places as of morning 13 June. A total of 15 teams each of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in the possible affected districts.

  • Tropical cyclone BIPARJOY is moving northeastward over the northern Arabian Sea, with maximum sustained winds of 155 kmph. BIPARJOY is expected to make landfall over an area between Mandvi Town (Gujarat, India) and Karachi City (Pakistan) by the evening of 15th June as a very severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph.
  • The BIPARJOY is likely to affect 1.67 million people across eight coastal districts in Gujarat (India) and 15 districts in Sindh province, Pakistan.
  • Over 37,000 people living in vulnerable areas in India and 60,000 in Pakistan have been evacuated and sheltered in ca. 200 and 61 temporary relief camps, respectively.
  • The local authorities and humanitarian agencies in both countries have activated their crisis response mechanisms, including mobilisation of relief and rescue teams, stockpiling of essential items, management of relief camps.
  • In India, the state level Inter Agency Group (IAG) has initiated its emergency response coordination mechanism on 12 June. UN OCHA in Pakistan has mapped aid stocks in Sindh and Baluchistan and confirmed that sufficient stocks are available in the country, except for a few items.

  • The intensity of the cyclone BIPARJOY has been reduced from 'very severe' category to 'severe' after the storm made landfall near Jakhau port, Gujarat, around 1.30 p.m. UTC on 15 June with maximum sustained winds of 102 km/h (tropical storm). The system is expected to weaken further into a cyclonic storm and then a deep depression as it moves to northern Gujarat and southern Rajasthan during the day.
  • In India, the initial reports estimate two deaths and 22 injuries due to the cyclone. Road, telecommunication, and electricity supply systems are badly interrupted in Gujarat. In Pakistan, one person died and several were injured.
  • More than 180,000 people were evacuated across both countries. Among these, UN OCHA report 81,000 evacuated people in 64 relief camps in Sindh Province (Pakistan).
  • Access to food, water, and hygiene items remains limited in many relief camps in India.
  • In Pakistan, DG ECHO partners are responding to the urgent needs in relief camps. Needs are expected to evolve as access to remote villages is restored.
