  • Heavy rain continues to affect the Greater Jakarta Area, West Java and Banten causing widespread floods and landslides. 293 sub-districts in the 3 provinces have been flooded since 1 January.
  • As of 6 January, 66 people have died, more than 100,000 have been displaced and housed in 128 temporary evacuation centres. Up to 500,000 have been affected by the floods. 
  • According to the Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency, more heavy rain is forecast over the next 24 hours.

  • According to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), as of 10 January, the death toll stands at 61 (25 in West Java, 20 in Banten and 16 in Jakarta).
  • The total number of displaced people has increased to 27,971, particularly in Bogor Regency (West Java Province) with 22,504 displaced. 2,000 households are affected and 500 houses flooded in Indramayu Regency (West Java Province).
  • On 9 January, floods and landslides occurred in one district in South Sumatra province, and 3 districts in Central Java province. Stakeholders including Humanitarian Forum Indonesia and the Humanitarian Country Team will hold a meetings on 10 and 13 January to assess the situation.
  • Local and national authorities, including the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), continue to monitor the situation and to provide emergency assistance to those affected. The Indonesian Red Cross distributed food items and hygiene kits in several remote areas in Bogor sub-district. 
  • For the next 48 hours, heavy rain is expected across the affected area and according to the Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the adverse weather conditions will persist until mid-February.

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting several parts of Sumatra and Java Islands (Indonesia), andsouthern Malaysia, since 28-29 January, causing floods and landslides.
  • According to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), as of 31 January, the number of deaths has increased to 7 in Central Tapanuli Regency (North Sumatra Province) while 856 people have been displaced and more than 200 houses flooded in Bondowoso Regency (East Java Province).
  • The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is conducting the emergency activities and provided two refugee tents, one public kitchen and one health service post in Bondowoso.
  • In Malaysia, more than 200 people were temporarily evacuated across Kluang, Johor Baru, Pontian, and Kulai Districts (Johor State).
  • Heavy rain with thunderstorms is forecast over most of Sumatra and Java Islands as well as over southern Malaysia on 1-2 February.
