Midwest USA, May 2020Days of heavy rain caused flooding in parts of Illinois and Michigan. Chicago recorded its wettest May calendar day on 14 May. Flood rescues were carried out in Chicago on 17 May and evacuations in the suburb of Lyons on 18 May. In Michigan, Muskegon and Ottawa Counties both declared a local state of emergency 18 May in response to high water levels on lakes, combined with flash flooding caused by rainfall over the weekend. By 19 May the Edenville and Sanford dams in Midland County, Michigan had failed, prompting the state to declare an emergency and issue evacuation notices to around 3,500 homes / 10,000 people in Edenville, Sanford and parts of the city of Midland.Sat 16 May 2020FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
