Sri Lanka, Late May to Early June 2022Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) reported severe weather including strong winds, lightning and heavy rain from 29 May 2022. As of 02 June, 1 fatality was reported in Rathnapura district, where 3426 people were affected, 57 displaced and 74 homes were damaged. Other affected districts included Kegalle, Kandy, Kalutara, Gampaha (11,425 affected), Colombo (7,023 affected and 633 displaced) and Matara. A total of 22,338 people were affected, 690 displaced and 174 homes damaged. The Sri Lanka Navy deployed 13 relief teams in flood-risk areas in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces as of 01 June 2022, to provide relief to the flood victims following the inclement weather prevailing in the island, the Navy Media Unit said. Areas include Paragoda, Baduraliya, Bulathsinhala and Pelawatta in the Kalutara District as well as town of Ratnapura, Delgoda, Ayagama and Muwagama areas in the Ratnapura District. Similarly, the Southern Naval Command has rushed flood relief teams to Thawalama, Hiniduma, Nagoda and Mapalagama areas in the Galle District.Thu 2 Jun 2022FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
