Ein starkes Erdbeben im Seegebiet zwischen dem Norden Japans und Russland hat Teile beider Länder erschüttert. Berichte über Schäden oder Opfer gab es zunächst nicht. Die Stärke lag unterschiedlichen Angaben zufolge zwischen 6,3 und 7,7.
Es habe keine Tsunamiwarnung herausgegeben werden müssen.
