  • Following the seismic activity off the coast of Atacama Region (northern-Chile), a new earthquake of 6.5 M at a depth of 14 km has been reported on 2 September at 21:09 UTC (17:09 local time). The epicentre was approximately 62 km north-west of Huasco City (Huasco Province).
  • After the main event of 6.8 M, other 16 aftershocks of magnitude greater than 4.5 M occurred in the area. USGS PAGER estimates that up to 1,000 people were exposed to strong shaking.
  • According to media, there are no reports of any casualties or damage.
