Ayeyarwady, Mon and Kayin, Myanmar, August 2019A further wave of flooding hit parts of lower Myanmar after heavy rainfall on 06 August. Local media reported evacuations in Hpa-An Township and Myawaddy in Kayin State (about 1,500 displaced), Bilin in Mon State (about 5,500 people displaced), and Myaungmya and Ngapudaw in the Ayeyarwady Region (about 500 displaced).

The following days heavy rain caused further flooding in Kyaikmayaw, Mon state, where 25,000 were displaced, as well as a catastrophic landslide in Paung Township where over 40 people died.

According to UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), in a 2 day period 07 to 09 august, over 3,300 people were displaced in Kayin State and 3,700 in Bago region.

This spate of flooding follows the floods that occurred from mid-July in the country which displaced a cumulative total of 89,000. Many of those displaced from the July floods had begin to return home as of 04 August.Tue 6 Aug 2019FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
