New flood insurance maps for New Orleans, expected to be made final Wednesday (March 30) by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, promise dramatically lower premiums for many property owners within the upgraded hurricane levee system. The maps remove many properties from Special Flood Hazard Areas that require flood insurance.
