Typhoons cause food shortage on Daito Islands

Because of typhoon Lan last weekend, supply ferries have not been able to enter Minami and Kita Daito Islands since Oct. 15th that has caused food shortages on the two islands. A plan to resume the ferry service on Saturday was cancelled because of the approaching typhoon Saola that is forecast to reach the area this weekend.

OSAKA – The Japan Transport Safety Board on Wednesday opened a probe into an Osaka train’s emergency stop as it crossed a nearly century-old bridge over a typhoon-swollen river on Sunday. Two passengers on the Nankai Electric Railway Co. train were injured.
