  • Tropical Cyclone GENEVIEVE located off Mexico's Pacific Coast, continues to move northwest as a Category 2 Hurricane. On 18 August at 3.00 UTC its centre was located approximately 340 km south-west of Manzanillo City (Colima State), with maximum sustained winds of 157 km/h.
  • It is forecast to strengthen rapidly as it approaches the Baja California Peninsula in the next 24 hours, with maximum sustained winds up to 220 km/h.
  • A tropical storm watch is in effect for southern Baja California Peninsula, from Los Barriles Town (Mexico) to Todos Santos Town (Mexico). Very heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected in eastern coastal States of Mexico, including Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán.

  • Tropical Cyclone GENEVIEVE is continuing north-west off the coast of western Mexico, as a Category 3 Hurricane, approximately 330 km south-west of Marias Islands (Nayarit State, Mexico), and 390 km south of the southern tip of Baja California Peninsula, with maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h.
  • GENEVIEVE is expected to approach the eastern coast of Baja California Peninsula on morning of 20 August, with maximum sustained winds up to 167 km/h.
  • A tropical storm warning remains in effect for southern Baja California Peninsula, from Los Barriles Town (Mexico) to Puerto Cortes Town (Mexico). Very heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are forecast over Baja California Sur, Colima, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Sinaloa states.

  • Tropical Cyclone GENEVIEVE weakened to a Category 1 Hurricane before approaching the southern tip of Baja California Peninsula on 20 August with maximum sustained winds of 139 km/h.
  • Strong winds and high waves along the southern Baja California Peninsula, resulted in the deaths of 2 people on 19 August in Cabo San Lucas.
  • GENEVIEVE is expected to weaken to a tropical storm as it continues north west, with maximum sustained winds up to 110 km/h. A hurricane warning remains in effect from Los Barriles Town (Mexico) to Todos Santos Town (Mexico), and a tropical storm warning has been issued from north of Todos Santos to Cabo San Lazaro City Municipality (Mexico). Heavy rain, high waves and strong winds are forecast in Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, Nayarit, and Jalisco States.

  • Tropical Cyclone GENEVIEVE has weakened to a tropical storm as is moves north-west along the Baja California Peninsula approximately 130 km south-west of Puerto San Carlos (southern tip of Baja California Peninsula, Mexico), with maximum sustained winds of 102 km/h.
  • GENEVIEVE is forecast to continue north-west over the East Pacific, downgrading to a tropical depression on the morning of 22 August.
  • A tropical storm warning is in effect for the south-western coast of Baja California peninsula from Cabo San Lazaro Municipality to Todos Santos Municipality (Mexico). On 21-22 August, heavy rainfall, strong winds and high waves are expected over Baja California Sur, while heavy rainfall are forecast over Sinaloa and Sonora States (north-western Mexico).
  • For next week, model rainfall forecasts suggest widespread, torrential rains along the Pacific-facing regions of Central America. This forecast, wet weather pattern increases the likelihoods for flooding over western and southern Guatemala, El Salvador, and the Gulf of Fonseca region.
