GDACS Survey

Introduction

The Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) provides near real-time alerts about natural disasters around the world and tools to facilitate response coordination, including media monitoring, map catalogues and Virtual On-Site Operations Coordination Centre. GDACS is a joint initiative of the United Nations and the European Commission.

In essence, the GDACS system provides four distinct services:

  1. GDACS Alerting Service: provides sms, fax, e-mail, and rss alerts on new disasters worldwide.
  2. GDACS Portal: provides automatically generated disaster impact reports and collects disaster specific news and situation reports.
  3. GDACS Coordination Service - Virtual OSOCC: assists first responders to coordinate their actions.
  4. GDACS Map Request Service: allows first responders to order satellite-based damage maps.

Note: Thus, with the 'GDACS system' we do NOT ONLY refer to the website: http://www.gdacs.org/.

You have previously shown interest in using GDACS or you have already subscribed.

Currently, the GDACS developers seek ways to further improve the system and are interested in hearing from its (potential) users what they like to see changed. The survey aims at gathering feedback from the principle target group: first responders in international humanitarian disasters. However, if you are using GDACS for other purposes your feedback is also highly appreciated. Please help us with approximately 10 minutes of your time to create a better tool that serves your requirements. Your collaboration will be highly appreciated and, of course, treated confidentially. The outcome of this survey will be published on the GDACS website around May 2008.

This survey is composed of three parts plus one optional part. The more data we have, the better we can make this tool, therefore we kindly like to ask you to give us the additional 5 minutes of your time to complete the optional part.

Part 1) Discusses some general questions concerning your use of the GDACS system
Part 2) Discusses service-specific questions
Part 3) Discusses future development of the GDACS system
Part 4) Discusses other things important for us to know (Optional)

WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION!

Note: we will record your IP number in order to avoid double entries.
