DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

----------------------

At 700 AM ChST...2100 UTC...the eye of Super Typhoon Lan was located

near latitude 21.2 degrees North and longitude 130.9 degrees East.

Lan is moving northeast at 6 mph. Lan is expected to turn to the

north and speed up the next couple of days as it heads toward Japan.



Maximum sustained winds have increased to 150 mph. Super Typhoon Lan

is forecast to intensify further through tonight before beginning a

weakening trend.



Typhoon Lan has a large wind field, with typhoon force winds

extending outward up to 40 miles from the center. Tropical storm

force winds extend up to 310 miles from the center.
