DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1000 PM ChST...1200 UTC...the poorly defined center of Tropical Depression 27W was located near latitude 9.4 degrees North and longitude 145.6 degrees East...moving west-northwest at 5 mph. Tropical Depression 27W is expected to turn toward the northwest early Tuesday morning through Wednesday with an increase in forward speed. This forecast track still anticipates 27W passing southwest of Guam near Tuesday afternoon. Maximum sustained winds remain near 35 mph. Tropical Depression 27W is expected to strengthen slowly starting later tonight and could pass south of Guam as a minimum tropical storm Tuesday afternoon or early evening. Once over the Philippine Sea, 27W should intensify further on Wednesday and Thursday. There is still some uncertainty on how close 27W will pass to Guam or locations in Yap State so this system should still be closely watched for any changes in motion or intensity.
