Present movement...North-northwest...330 degrees at 17 mph.



DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 100 AM ChST...1500 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Saola was

located near latitude 16.9 degrees North and longitude 133.9 degrees

East...moving north-northwest at 17 mph. Tropical Storm Saola is

expected to maintain this direction with a decrease in forward

speed through tonight, then curve toward the north Friday, then

toward northeast passing just south of Japan over the weekend.



Maximum sustained winds have increased to 50 mph. Little change in

intensity is expected through tonight, but then Saola is forecast

to intensify slowly over the next few days, possibly becoming a

typhoon Saturday before weakening Sunday or Monday.



Tropical storm force winds extend out to 230 miles in the eastern

semicircle, and up to 165 miles in the western semicircle.
