At least 11 people have died and up to 120 000 are displaced by floods, according to the Government of Myanmar. People are sheltering in 288 evacuation sites. At national level, the Government has stated that 36 dams have exceeded water levels.
While the Government has not officially called for assistance, partners have been responding to local requests from the Department of Disaster Management and Department of Social Welfare through provision of NFIs, dignity kits, temporary shelter materials, high-energy biscuits etc.
More detailed assessments are taking place and inter-sectoral planning will start to ensure that stockpiles, partners’ capacity to respond and gaps in the delivery of the response can be adequately measured and to plan in case of serious deterioration in weather conditions. Potential funding from the Myanmar Humanitarian Fund/Central Emergency Response Fund for an amount of approximately USD 3-4 million is available.
Preliminary data from the Ministry of Livestock and Agriculture estimates approximately USD 40 million in losses from monsoon paddy (excluding livestock and aquaculture losses for which no data is available yet).
