Koppu has intensified into a Category 1 typhoon and is gradually slowing its forward speed. On 16 October, at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located 600 km east of Baler Bay of Aurora province and it had maximum sustained wind speed of 148 km/h.
The typhoon is forecast to make landfall over areas along the shores of Aurora, as an intense Typhoon on 18 October. It is likely to produce heavy rainfall over parts of Luzon, which may trigger flash flooding and landslides.
The Office of Civil Defense continuously monitors the situation and disseminates weather bulletins and gale warnings. Government has stockpiled food packs and emergency drugs.
Public Storm Warning signal #2 is now hoisted over Cagayan and Isabela provinces. 16 other provinces in Cagayan Valley, Southern Tagalog, Cordillera, and Bicol regions are under PSWS #1.
