Tropical Cyclone DUMAZILE continued moving south-south-east over the South-West Indian Ocean, between Madagascar and La Réunion Island, strengthening. On 6 March its centre was located 330 km south-west of La Reunion and 550 km south-east of Toamasina city (Madagascar). It had maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h.
Over the next 24 hours, it is forecast to keep moving toward the south-east, slowly weakening, and its centre will stay over water, heading away from eastern Madagascar and La Reunion. Heavy rainfall and strong winds may continue to affect eastern Madagascar and La Réunion Island between 6-8 March.
Madagascar National Authorities warned about heavy rain expected in the north-western areas of the country. A yellow alert is maintained for the Matitanana river.
According to local media, schools in La Reunion will remain closed due to damaged roads. They also reported that several areas of the capital Saint-Denis were affected by flash floods. Local media in Madagascar also mentioned that several parts of Toamasina city have been flooded (Atsinanana region, Madagascar).
