Japan - Tropical cyclone JEBI UPDATE

Tropical cyclone JEBI continued moving north-east over the North West Pacific Ocean. Its centre made landfall close to Aki city (Shikoku island, Japan) as a typhoon on 4 September before crossing eastern Shikoku and Osaka Prefecture (Honshu Island). It reached the Sea of Japan before moving away from land, weakening and dissipating. Heavy rain may continue to affect central and northern Honshu Island over 5-6 September.
According to media reports,10 people died, 200 were injured and 30 000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders in western Honshu Island. At least 500 flights were also cancelled to and from Osaka Kansai International Airport.

Tropical cyclone JEBI continues strengthening as it moves north-west over the North West Pacific Ocean. On 31 August at 0.00 UTC its centre was located 1 900 km south-east of Honshu Island (Japan) with maximum sustained winds of 269 km/h (very intense typhoon).
Over the next 48 hours, it is forecast to keep moving north-west toward Japan. Heavy rain may continue to affect the Northern Mariana Islands.
