WUTIP made landfall in the morning (UTC) of 30 September in the area between Quang Tri and Ha Tihn (central Vietnam). A few hours before the landfall, at 06:00 UTC on 30 September, it was a Typhoon with a max. sust. wind speed of 167 km/h. Ca. 280 mm of rain were observed in 24h between 29 September 12:00 UTC and 30 September 12:00 UTC in Dong Hoi (Quang Binh province, Vietnam). JRC calculations indicated a possible storm surge of the order of 1.0-1.7m in the coastal areas near Ba Don (central-Vietnam) for 30 September morning (UTC).

As of 1 October, media report 75 people still missing in the South China Sea and thousands of people having evacuated coastal and flood-prone areas in central Vietnam. Local media (as of early 1 October) report three people killed in Quang Binh province and 35 injured people, damages to houses and power outages in the central provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Ha Tinh.
