In the wake of Melissa , zones near Africa and Central America will be the focus of attention for potential tropical development this week. After forming off the Northeast coast this past Friday morning, Tropical Storm Melissa will continue to weaken as it tracks eastward over the North Atlantic into midweek.

There are currently two active tropical storms whirling across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. The storms are post-tropical cyclone Ema and tropical storm Melissa. Neither poses an immense threaten, but weather agencies are currently tracking six other tropical systems which are seen as likely to strengthen into a forbidding storm.

Meteorologists were tracking a pantheon of storm systems in the Atlantic on Monday. Tropical Storm Melissa was downgraded in status Monday and another system off Africa’s west coast is showing very likely odds of developing, the National Hurricane Center said in its 8 p.m. update.
