DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Darby was located near latitude 21.7 North, longitude 158.9 West. Darby is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue over the next 48 hours. On the forecast track, the center of Darby is expected to pass over or near Kauai tonight. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Darby is expected to weaken to a tropical depression tonight and become a post-tropical remnant low in about 2 days. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the center.
