DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lester was located near latitude 35.1 North, longitude 166.2 West. Lester is moving toward the north near 13 mph (20 km/h). A turn toward the northeast, with a dramatic increase in forward speed, is expected tonight and Wednesday as Lester transitions to an extratropical low. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast through Wednesday, but Lester is forecast to dissipate on Thursday as it gets caught up in the circulation of a larger extratropical low near the Gulf of Alaska. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1001 mb (29.56 inches).
