DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 700 AM CHST...2100 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Shanshan
was located near Latitude 17.7 degrees North and Longitude 140.8 
degrees East. Shanshan is moving north at 6 mph. It is expected to 
maintain this general course with a slight increase in forward 
speed through Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 60 mph. Shanshan is
forecast to continue to slowly intensify over the next couple of 
days possibly becoming a typhoon late tonight or early Saturday 
morning.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 10
miles northwest of the center and up to 80 miles elsewhere.
