The latest forecast track shows Krosa moving generally north- northeastward through Saturday, passing near or just west of Maug Saturday night, then turning slightly back to the north on Sunday. The passage of Krosa west of the islands will cause southeast winds to shift more southerly and increase through this evening, with widespread locally heavy showers bringing frequent gusts. Latest forecast projections show southerly tropical storm winds of 35 to 45 mph arriving as early as this evening, gradually shifting from south to southwest through Saturday, before diminishing sometime Sunday. For islands further to the north and west, including Agrihan, strong tropical storm force winds of 50 to 60 mph will be possible as early as Saturday morning until early Sunday morning. After the passage of TS Krosa, a strong southwest monsoon pattern will prolong windy conditions through Sunday night. .COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Surf will initially rise along south facing reefs today, then spread to west facing reefs Saturday, exceeding hazardous levels of 9 ft. Surf along these windward shores could approach dangerous levels of 15 ft early Saturday before peaking at 15 to 20 ft Saturday night. Surf will begin to subside Sunday, possibly falling below 15 ft dangerous levels midday Sunday. Surf will likely remain at hazardous levels of 10 to 14 ft into early next week due to the persistent monsoon flow. Rip currents during this time will be strong and life threatening. Stay out of the water. Wind and wave-driven coastal inundation of 1 to 3 ft will be possible along windward shores, especially around times of high tide as surf reaches peak heights Saturday and Sunday. .OTHER STORM EFFECTS... Widespread locally heavy showers will increase Saturday and Sunday as TS Krosa passes to the west. Rainfall accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are possible through Monday. Even after Krosa begins to move away Sunday and Monday, a wet monsoon pattern will prolong showers across the islands. $$
