At 2 PM ChST, the center of Super Typhoon Sinlaku (04W) was located by PGUA radar near latitude 12.6N, longitude 148.2E. This was about 230 miles east-southeast of Guam. Storm motion was west-northwest, 300 degrees, at 8 mph. Storm intensity was 180 mph. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... Super Typhoon Sinlaku (04W) continues to move west-northwest toward the Marianas with a slight northwest turn expected. The outer rain bands of Sinlaku are beginning to rotate in over the islands, and continue to bring periods of heavy showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds for the far outer islands of northwest Chuuk. However, tropical storm winds of 39 mph or greater have moved away from Ulul. The most recent storm track produced by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) has shown a slight northward shift in the storm path during its passage toward the Marianas, still maintaining a track north of Rota and near or over Tinian and Saipan. Sinlaku is expected to gradually weaken the next few days, but still expected to cross the Marianas as a category 4 or 5 typhoon. .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For those under a Warning in the Marianas, the window of time to complete preparations for the protection of life and property is very soon to close. Evacuate if directed to do so by local officials, or if your home is vulnerable to high winds or flooding. For interests at ports, docks, and marinas, urgently complete prescribed preparations according to your emergency operations plan for tropical cyclones. If you live on a boat, make final preparations for securing your craft before leaving it. Small craft should remain in port and well secured. For those under a Watch in the far northern Mariana Islands, continue with your preparations and listen for possible warnings. Closely monitor NOAA weather radio or other local news outlets for official storm information. Listen for possible changes to the forecast. Stay indoors during heavy rain and windy conditions associated with Super Typhoon Sinlaku (04W). The onset of damaging, and potentially destructive winds, will pose a deadly threat to those venturing outside. The window of time to complete preparations for the protection of life and property is very soon to close. Items to bring to a shelter include a first aid kit, medicines and prescriptions, baby food and diapers, games and books, toiletries, a battery powered radio, a cell phone, flashlights with extra batteries, a blanket or sleeping bag for each person, personal identification, copies of key papers such as insurance policies, available cash and credit cards. Remember, pets are not allowed in most public shelters, so check ahead with your intended shelter. Regarding your home or business, finish covering all windows and doors with shutters or plywood. Move patio furniture and other loose objects indoors. Brace all exterior doors, including garage doors. Stay calm and keep informed. Comply with any evacuation orders that are issued for your area. If you live in a metal roof or container home, or you live in a surge zone or any location prone to flooding, evacuate to a designated shelter or ride out the storm in the sturdy home of family or friends outside of evacuation zones. && ...WIND INFORMATION... As Super Typhoon Sinlaku (04W) continues to move closer, the threat for sustained high winds will increase. North to northeast tropical storm force winds of 35 to 45 mph are currently forecast to begin affecting Guam this evening or tonight, especially near the northern coastal waters and shores of Guam coming into Tuesday. The latest forecast has shifted the track slightly north passing near or over southern Saipan, but still likely keeping strong tropical storm winds around 60 mph just north of Guam. Tropical storm force winds around 40 to 50 mph and gusts to 65 mph are possible into late Tuesday evening as winds shift towards the northwest and then west. Tropical storm force winds are currently forecast to continue into early Wednesday. ...COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Due to higher astronomical tides this week and pre-existing elevated seas, dangerous surf is expected or already occurring across north, east and south reefs in the Marianas as surf heights build to around 12 to 16 feet, and potentially spreading to west facing reefs once STY Sinlaku moves west of the islands in the next few days. The more northern trek of Sinlaku could help to limit the peak of coastal inundation but inundation of 1 to 3 ft is still possible as surf and wind driven waves increase as tropical storm force winds arrive; as such, a Coastal Flood Watch remains in effect. Inland flooding made worse by developing rain bands during storm passage will significantly increase coastal inundation as rain run-off and storm surge interact. Surf will be slow to decrease after Sinlaku's exit to the north-northwest in the second half of the week, as swells will continue to pummel western Marianas shores. ...OTHER STORM EFFECTS... Heavy, intense rainfall with STY Sinlaku is likely, as quick- moving north-northeasterly showers are making their way across the area and will continue to do so through at least Wednesday, with rainfall amounts upwards of 15 to 25 inches near the center, as the system crosses the Marianas. The exact track of Sinlaku will determine where the heaviest rainfall will set up across the islands. The more northern track currently forecast will likely shift this heavier rainfall north of Guam, but 6 to 12 inches of rainfall are still possible. As such, a Flood Watch remains in effect for Guam. See latest forecast for latest information. Listen for possible flash flood warnings for your location, and be ready to act if flash flooding develops. $$ MPZ001>003-131330- /O.CON.PGUM.TY.W.4004.000000T0000Z-000000T0000Z/ Rota-Tinian-Saipan- 324 PM ChST Mon Apr 13 2026 ...TYPHOON WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT... ...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... The window of time to complete preparations for the protection of life and property is very soon to close. If evacuating to a public shelter, leave as soon as possible. Guard against being stuck out on roadways when dangerous winds and heavy rains arrive. Again, do not stay in a metal roof or container home. Brace all exterior doors. If staying in a home, turn the refrigerator to maximum cold and keep it closed. Turn off propane tanks and unplug small appliances. Fill the bathtub with water in case the tap water becomes unavailable after the storm. This is for cleaning and flushing purposes. Do not drink it. && ...WIND INFORMATION... As Super Typhoon Sinlaku (04W) moves closer, the threat for sustained high winds will continue to increase. The latest forecast is for tropical storm force winds to begin affecting Rota, Tinian and Saipan this evening or tonight, with Typhoon force winds developing Tuesday. The recent storm tracks have maintained a northward passage of STY Sinlaku as it moves into the Marianas as a category 4 or 5 Typhoon, passing near or across Tinian and Saipan. For Rota, if this track holds, the risk for Typhoon force winds of 75 mph or greater may diminish. For now the forecast has northerly tropical storm winds around 40 to 50 mph, expected to become northwest to west and increasing to 55 to 65 mph with gusts to 80 mph Tuesday with the potential for typhoon force winds of around 75 mph possible. Tropical storm winds are expected to continue into Wednesday as winds shift to the southwest. For Tinian and Saipan, the current track has Sinlaku passing near or directly overhead Tuesday through Tuesday night. This is forecasted to bring winds around 130 to 150 mph with gusts to 180 mph possible. Devastating damage is possible if this forecast track and wind speed holds. Airborne debris will cause extensive damage. Persons, pets, and livestock struck by the wind blown debris will be injured or killed. Nearly all metal roof homes will be destroyed. Electricity and water will be unavailable for days and perhaps weeks after the storm passes. Most trees will be snapped or uprooted. Fallen trees may cut off residential areas for days to weeks. ...COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Due to higher astronomical tides this week and pre-existing elevated seas, dangerous surf is expected or already occurring across north, east and south reefs in the Marianas and potentially spreading to west facing reefs once STY Sinlaku moves west of the Islands. Surf at Rota is expected to build to around 15 to 20 feet, and 18 to 25 ft at Tinian and Saipan. A more northern track of Sinlaku could help to limit the peak of coastal inundation at Rota, but inundation of at least 3-5 feet is still possible as surf and wind driven waves increase as tropical storm force winds arrive. For Tinian and Saipan inundation of of at least 5-8 feet is possible, especially along windward facing beaches and reefs. A Coastal Flood Watch remains in effect. Inland flooding made worse by developing rain bands during storm passage will significantly increase coastal inundation as rain run-off and storm surge interact. Surf will be slow to decrease after Sinlaku's exit to the northwest in the second half of the week, as swells will continue to pummel western Marianas shores. ...OTHER STORM EFFECTS... The more northern track currently forecasted will likely shift this heavier rainfall over Tinian and Saipan, but 10 to 20 inches of rainfall are still possible for Rota. The exact track of Sinlaku will determine where the heaviest rainfall will set up across the islands. As such, a Flood Watch remains in effect for Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.
