This local statement provides information and recommended action for people on Yap, Ngulu, Ulithi, Fais, Faraulep, Woleai and Satawal in Yap State. .WATCHES/WARNINGS... A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for Satawal and Woleai in Yap State. A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for Yap, Ulithi, Fais, and Ngulu in Yap State. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Faraulep in Yap State. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions, including damaging winds of 39 to 73 mph, are expected within the next 24 hours. A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours. .STORM INFORMATION... At 1 PM ChST, the center of Tropical Storm 05W was located near Latitude 7.3N, Longitude 146.3E. This was about 50 miles west of Satawal, 150 miles southeast of Faraulep, and 165 miles east of Woleai in Yap State. 05W is moving west-southwest at 13 mph. It is expected to make a slight turn toward the west with a slight decrease in forward speed through Thursday as it moves across Yap State. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 40 mph. 05W is forecast to maintain this intensity through tonight, then gradually strengthen through Thursday, remaining a Tropical Storm for at least the next few days. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... 05W was upgraded to a Tropical Storm to the west of Satawal this afternoon. Tropical Storm 05W looks to maintain a west-southwest trek across eastern Yap State through this evening, turn slightly west tonight, then make a gradual turn to the west-northwest on Thursday as it passes near Woleai. 05W looks to steadily intensify on Thursday and Thursday night, potentially becoming a strong tropical storm come Friday. This is expected to keep Satawal, and later Woleai, within the radius of tropical storm force winds as 05W propagates westward, and a Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for these islands and atolls. Although the current forecast track brings TS 05W farther south of Faraulep, slight wobbles in the track, or additional strengthening, could still bring Faraulep within the radius of tropical storm force winds, and a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Faraulep. Tropical storm conditions could potentially begin early Thursday morning for Faraulep and Woleai, and depart Satawal later this evening. As TS 05W's wind field expands and strengthens as it moves further west, Ulithi, Fais, Ngulu, and Yap may enter the radius of tropical storm force winds as early as Friday morning, and a Tropical Storm Watch was issued for these islands and atolls. .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For those under a Watch, continue preparations for your home or business according to your tropical cyclone disaster plan. For those under a Warning, preparations should be rushed to completion.
