WTPQ81 PGUM 070547 HLSPQ1 URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED TROPICAL CYCLONE LOCAL STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TIYAN GU 347 PM ChST Thu May 7 2026 ...TROPICAL STORM HAGUPIT CONTINUES WESTWARD ACROSS CENTRAL YAP STATE... .NEW INFORMATION... None. .AREAS AFFECTED... This local statement provides information and recommended action for people on Yap, Ngulu, Ulithi, Fais, Faraulep, Woleai and Satawal in Yap State. .WATCHES/WARNINGS... A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Faraulep, Woleai, Ulithi and Fais in Yap State. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Yap and adjacent coastal waters, and Ngulu in Yap State. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions, including winds of 39 to 73 mph, are expected within 24 hours. A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions, including winds of 39 to 73 mph, are possible within 48 hours. .STORM INFORMATION... At 1 PM ChST, the center of Tropical Storm Hagupit was located near Latitude 7.3N, Longitude 143.4E. This was about 35 miles west of Woleai, 115 miles southwest of Faraulep, and 260 miles southeast of Fais in Yap State. Hagupit is moving west at 10 mph. It is expected to make a slight turn toward the west-northwest with little change in forward speed through Friday as it moves into western Yap State. Maximum sustained winds remain at 40 mph. Hagupit is forecast to maintain this intensity through tonight before gradually intensifying Friday through Saturday, remaining a tropical storm through the next few days. Hagupit is expected to reach peak intensity on Saturday and is less favored to become a strong tropical storm at this time. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 80 miles to the northeast, and up to 50 miles to the northwest and southeast. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... Hagupit remains a weak Tropical Storm just west of Woleai this afternoon. TS Hagupit continues to move west, and is expected to make a slight turn to the west-northwest later this afternoon as it pulls farther away from Woleai. Hagupit looks to maintain this west- northwest trek over the next few days, remaining at its current intensity through tonight before gradually intensifying Friday through Saturday. Hagupit is expected to remain a tropical storm the next few days, reaching peak intensity on Saturday as it passes between Yap and Ngulu. Although the latest forecast places Faraulep outside the tropical storm wind field, strong convection continues to develop nearby and overhead, just northeast of Hagupit's center, which may continue to produce frequent tropical storm force gusts this afternoon. Deterministic model guidance indicates that strong to near-gale sustained winds will continue over Faraulep until late tonight, even as Hagupit moves away. Due to the potential for ongoing hazardous conditions and damaging wind gusts, the Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Faraulep. Woleai remains well within the forecasted TS winds until this evening, so the Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect there as well. As TS Hagupit continues its west-northwest trek into western Yap State, the wind field looks to expand slightly northward, and Ulithi and Fais are expected to see TS winds starting around late Friday morning, so a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for these locations. Tropical storm force winds are still possible for Ngulu and Yap, but beyond 24 hours, and Tropical Storm Watches remain in effect there. .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For those under a Watch, continue preparations for your home or business according to your tropical cyclone disaster plan. For those under a Warning, preparations should be rushed to completion if not already complete. Listen for possible warnings and be ready to evacuate or move to adequate shelter if your location is vulnerable to tropical storm conditions. Heed the advice of local officials and comply with any orders that are issued. For interests at ports, docks, and marinas, it is recommended that you perform the prescribed preparations according to your emergency operations plan for tropical cyclones. If you live on a boat, safely secure your craft and make plans to leave it for adequate land-based shelter. Regarding the coastal waters under a Watch or Warning, small craft should return to port or seek safe harbor. Be sure to actively listen for forthcoming information from your local National Weather Service office and emergency management office. Closely monitor local news outlets for official storm information. Listen for possible changes to the forecast. When making decisions, do not focus on the exact forecast track. For those nearby, review your tropical cyclone disaster plan and become ready to act if a Watch or a Warning is later issued for your area. .NEXT UPDATE...
