The tropical storm warning for Ulithi and Fais has been cancelled. .AREAS AFFECTED... This local statement provides information and recommended action for people on Yap, Ngulu, Ulithi, and Fais in Yap State. .WATCHES/WARNINGS... A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Ngulu, in Yap State, Yap Proper and adjacent coastal waters. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions, including winds of 39 to 73 mph, are expected within 24 hours. .STORM INFORMATION... At 100 AM CHST the center of Tropical Storm Hagupit was located near Latitude 8.8 degrees North and Longitude 137.8 degrees East. Hagupit is moving west at 9 mph. It is expected to make a slight turn toward the west-northwest with little change in forward speed through Sunday as it passes through or just south of Yap Proper overnight. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 40 mph. Hagupit is forecast to maintain this intensity through Sunday, remaining a tropical storm. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 90 miles to the northeast. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... Hagupit remains a Tropical Storm east-southeast of Yap Proper. Hagupit continues to move west-northwest, it has departed from Fais and Ulithi, and approaches Yap Proper and Ngulu. Hagupit looks to maintain this west-northwest trek over the next few days, maintaining at its current intensity through today. Hagupit is expected to remain a tropical storm through Sunday, as it passes to the west of Yap. As TS Hagupit continues its west-northwest trek through western Yap State, the wind field looks to remain steady. The Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Yap Proper and Ngulu. Also, at Fais and Ulithi, winds are subsiding and have fallen below tropical storm force. Winds of tropical storm force are occurring or imminent for Ngulu and Yap Proper through at least this morning. .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For those under a warning, preparations should be already complete. Evacuate or move to adequate shelter if your location is vulnerable to tropical storm conditions.
