WTUS82 KFFC 060924 HLSFFC GAZ074>076-084>086-097-098-109>113-061730- Tropical Storm Debby Local Statement Advisory Number 16 National Weather Service Peachtree City GA AL042024 524 AM EDT Tue Aug 6 2024 This product covers North and Central Georgia **HEAVY RAIN AND FLOODING FROM DEBBY WILL PERSIST THROUGH THE AFTERNOON** NEW INFORMATION --------------- * CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - The Tropical Storm Warning has been cancelled for Emanuel, Telfair, Treutlen, and Wheeler * CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Montgomery and Toombs * STORM INFORMATION: - About 60 miles southeast of Vidalia GA - 31.6N 81.6W - Storm Intensity 45 mph - Movement Northeast or 50 degrees at 7 mph SITUATION OVERVIEW ------------------ Debby will move very slowly east today only reaching the Georgia and South Carolina coasts by afternoon. Heavy rainfall will continue across east central Georgia today with an additional 1 to 3 inches today and storm total amounts up to 8 inches. Flooding and flash flooding remain possible. High water levels and flooding along rivers in the area is expected continue or worsen for the next several days. A Flood watch remains in effect through 8 PM EDT. The Tropical Storm warning is in effect for Montgomery and Toombs county. Tropical Storm force wind gusts will continue and are expected to decrease after sunset. POTENTIAL IMPACTS ----------------- * FLOODING RAIN: Potential impacts from the flooding rain are still unfolding across east central Georgia. Remain well guarded against life-threatening flood waters having devastating impacts. If realized, these impacts include: - Extreme rainfall flooding may prompt numerous evacuations and rescues. - Rivers and tributaries may overwhelmingly overflow their banks in many places with deep moving water. Small streams, creeks, canals, arroyos, and ditches may become raging rivers. In mountain areas, deadly runoff may rage down valleys while increasing susceptibility to rockslides and mudslides. Flood control systems and barriers may become stressed. - Flood waters can enter numerous structures within multiple communities, some structures becoming uninhabitable or washed away. Numerous places where flood waters may cover escape routes. Streets and parking lots become rivers of raging water with underpasses submerged. Driving conditions become very dangerous. Numerous road and bridge closures with some weakened or washed out. Potential impacts from the flooding rain are still unfolding across east central Georgia. Remain well guarded against life-threatening flood waters having limited to extensive impacts. * WIND: Protect against hazardous wind having possible limited impacts across east central Georgia. Potential impacts in this area include: - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about. - Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over. - A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways. - Scattered power and communications outages. Elsewhere across NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA, little to no impact is anticipated.
