WTUS84 KBRO 072105 HLSBRO TXZ248>255-351-353>355-451-454-455-080515- Tropical Storm Beryl Local Statement Advisory Number 37 National Weather Service Brownsville TX AL022024 405 PM CDT Sun Jul 7 2024 This product covers The Rio Grande Valley and Deep South Texas **BERYL BECOMING BETTER ORGANIZED AND FORECAST TO BECOME A HURRICANE BEFORE LANDFALL ON THE MIDDLE TEXAS COAST** NEW INFORMATION --------------- * CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - None * CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Cameron Island, Coastal Cameron, Coastal Kenedy, Coastal Willacy, Kenedy Island, and Willacy Island * STORM INFORMATION: - About 130 miles east-northeast of Brownsville TX or about 120 miles east of Port Mansfield TX - 26.8N 95.5W - Storm Intensity 65 mph - Movement North-northwest or 335 degrees at 12 mph SITUATION OVERVIEW ------------------ As of 4 PM CDT, Tropical Storm Beryl was centered about 135 mi ESE Corpus Christi, TX and moving NNW at 12 mph towards the middle Texas coast. Current wind speed is 65 mph with higher gusts. Beryl is expected to become a hurricane before making landfall along the middle Texas Coast around sunrise Monday. Tropical Storm Warnings continue for coastal Kenedy, Willacy and Cameron counties including the islands. Marine and coastal areas will continue to see impacts into this evening. Hazards include high rip current risk, coastal run-up, and dangerous seas. Gusty winds and heavy rainfall impacts will be possible with rain bands. Heaviest rainfall amounts will be on the islands. There is a limited tornado risk along the coast. Conditions are expected to improve this evening into the overnight hours. POTENTIAL IMPACTS ----------------- * WIND: Protect against hazardous wind having possible limited impacts across the lower Texas coast. Potential impacts in this area include: - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about. - Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over. - A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways. - Scattered power and communications outages. Elsewhere across The Rio Grande Valley and Deep South Texas, little to no impact is anticipated. * SURGE: Protect against locally hazardous surge having possible limited impacts across the lower Texas coast. Potential impacts in this area include: - Localized inundation with storm surge flooding mainly along immediate shorelines and in low-lying spots, or in areas farther inland near where higher surge waters move ashore. - Sections of near-shore roads and exposed parking lots could become covered with some surge water. Driving conditions dangerous in places where surge water covers the road. - Moderate beach erosion. Heavy surf also breaching dunes, mainly in usually vulnerable locations. Strong rip currents. - Minor damage to marinas, docks, boardwalks, and piers. A few small craft broken away from moorings.
