Tropical cyclone NATE continued moving inland, crossing southeastern Mississippi State and northwestern Alabama State as a tropical depression.
Over the next 24 hours, it is expected to keep moving inland toward the north-east, passing across the Tennesse Valley and the Central Appalachian Mountains. Heavy rain and strong winds may occur over several areas of Florida Panhadle, Alabama, Georgia, northern Gulf coast, Ohio Valley and east Mississippi River.
According to local media, as of 9 October at 6.00 UTC, it has caused at least 38 deaths: 16 in Nicaragua, 11 in Costa Rica, seven in Panama, three in Honduras and one in El Salvador. In Costa Rica, local media also reported that over 11 300 people have been evacuated. In Nicaragua, they reported that over 5 950 houses have been damaged as of 8 October. In the USA, media mentioned that more than 100 000 people have been left without electrical power in Mississippi and Alabama States.

Tropical Cyclone NATE (previously named SIXTEEN) continued moving toward the northeastern coast of Nicaragua, strengthening. In the afternoon of 5 October it made landfall south of Puerto Cabezas (Nicaragua) as a Tropical Storm. It then moved north-west over north-eastern Nicaragua and eastern Honduras reaching the Gulf of Honduras. On 6 October at 6.00 UTC its centre was located 125 km east-southeast of Isla Guanaja (Honduras) and it had maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h (Tropical Storm).
Over the next 48 h it is forecast to keep moving toward the north-west over the northwestern Caribbean Sea approaching the eastern coast of Yucatan peninsula in the evening of 6 October, probably as a Tropical Storm or Category 1 Hurricane; then it will start moving over the Gulf of Mexico, strengthening. It may reach the USA northern Gulf coast, close to Mississippi Delta (Louisiana State, USA), on 8 October, probably as a Category 1 Hurricane. Heavy rain, storm surges and strong winds may occur over several area of southern Honduras, western Nicaragua, eastern (isolated max. amount of 375 mm), eastern El Salvador, northern and central Honduras, eastern Yucatan and western Cuba as well as eastern Belize and the Cayman Islands, Louisiana and Mississippi states (USA). This rainfall could cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.
As of 6 October at 6.00 UTC, Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for Punta Castilla (Honduras) to the Honduras/Nicaragua border and from Punta Herrero to Rio Lagartos (Mexico).
According to local media, as of 6 October at 6.00 UTC, at least 22 people were reported dead in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras. They also mentioned, as of the same date, that 5 000 people were evacuated and 400 000 were left without running water in Costa Rica.
