Event. A magnitude-5.8 offshore earthquake occurred in the South Pacific Ocean at around 17:59 TOT Sept. 9. The epicenter was about 232 km (144 miles) west-northwest of Pangai, Tonga . The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and light shaking was probably felt throughout Tonga and far eastern Fiji.
