Mercredi 12 mai, vers 18 heures, des secousses sismiques ont été enregistrées au large de Maurice – Réunion , comme le rapporte le site de l’ United States Geological Survey (USGS). L’épicentre du séisme, d’une magnitude de 6.7 sur l’échelle de Richter qui en compte 10, était situé à 10 km de profondeur.

Un tremblement de terre de magnitude 6,7 et peu profond a été enregistré dans la région de l'île Maurice - Réunion à 14h05 UTC. L'épicentre était situé à environ 413 km au nord-est de Port Mathurin, à Maurice. La secousse n'a pas déclenché d'alerte au tsunami.

An earthquake with a magnitude of Mwp 6.6 has occurred near Mauritius Region in the South Indian Ocean earlier today (May 12). However, there is no tsunami threat to Sri Lanka at present with the effect of this earthquake, the Department of Meteorology stated. Thereby, the Meteorology Department has declared the coastal areas of Sri Lanka safe.

The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). EMSC is reporting the same magnitude and depth.
