  • Hurricane DELTA is strengthening as it moves north-west towards the Yucatan Peninsula. On 6 October at 6.00 UTC its centre was 265 km south-south-east of Grand Cayman Island, with maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h (Category 1).
  • DELTA is forecast to pass south-west of the Cayman Islands on 6 October, approaching Yucatan peninsula and channel (already affected by Tropical Cyclone GAMMA) with maximum sustained winds up to 195 km/h (category 3) before continuing north-west over the Gulf of Mexico.
  • A hurricane warning is in effect for Cozumel Island and from Tulum to Rio Lagartos (Mexico), a tropical storm warning for the Cayman Islands, Pinar del Rio province (Cuba), Isle of Youth (Cuba), from Punta Herrero to Tulum and from Rio Lagartos to Progresso (Mexico).

  • Hurricane DELTA continues towards Yucatan Peninsula. It was approximately 175 km south-east of CancĂșn City (Quintana Roo State) on 6 October, with maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h (category 3).
  • According to media reports, evacuation orders have been issued for coastal CancĂșn and the city's convention centre has been established as a shelter.
  • DELTA is forecast to make landfall over the north-east of Yucatan Peninsula on 7 October, before approaching the coast of Louisiana on 9 October.
  • A hurricane warning has been issued for Cozumel Island and from Tulum to Dzilam (Mexico), a tropical storm warning remains in effect for Pinar del Rio Province (Cuba), Isle of Youth (Cuba), from Punta Herrero to Tulum and from Dzilam to Progreso (Mexico).

  • Hurricane DELTA was approximately 190 km north of Progreso City (Yucatan, Mexico) on 8 October at 3.00 UTC, with maximum sustained winds of 148 km/h (Category 1), after passing over the Yucatan Peninsula and the Gulf of Mexico.
  • According to national authorities and media, 9 people were killed in Yucatan, Tabasco, and Chiapas States after storm-induced floods and landslides. Over 35,000 people have been evacuated to temporary evacuation centres in Yucatan.
  • DELTA is forecast to continue north over the Gulf of Mexico, reaching eastern Texas and southern Louisiana late on 9-10 October, with maximum sustained winds between 160-180 km/h.
  • A hurricane warning is in effect for coastal areas between eastern Texas and west-central Lousiana. Storm surge warnings have been issued from eastern Texas to central Mississippi. A tropical storm warning is in effect for eastern Texas and eastern Lousiana, including New Orleans.

  • According to media reports, areas of Louisiana are under mandatory evacuation orders and the authorities of Alabama and Mississippi have declared a state of emergency.   
  • DELTA is forecast to make landfall over the southern coast of Louisiana on 9 October as a Category 3 hurricane.
  • A hurricane warning is in effect from High Island (Texas) to Morgan City (Louisiana), a storm surge warning from High Island (Texas) to Ocean Springs (Mississippi). A tropical storm warning has been issued from West of High Island to Sargent (Texas), from East of Morgan City (Louisiana) to the mouth of the Pearl River, including New Orleans.

  • DELTA affected areas of Louisiana, already hit by the passage of Hurricane LAURA on 27-28 August.
  • Flood warnings have been issued for parts of south-western Lousiana. Rain is forecast over southern and eastern Texas, most of Lousiana and northern Mississippi and northern Alabama on 13-16 October.
