  • Tropical Storm LUPIT is moving east-northeast close to the coast of Guangdong Province (southeastern China). On 4 August at 0.00 UTC, it was approximately 190 km southeast of Hong Kong, with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h (tropical storm).
  • LUPIT is forecast to continue moving east-northeast, before turning north and making landfall over the southern coast of Fujian Province on 5 August. It is later expected to cross Fujian Province and over the southern East China Sea.
  • Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast over northern Hainan Island, southern Guangdong, eastern Fujian, and central-western Taiwan Island. A blue warning typhoon is in effect over the aforementioned regions.

  • Tropical Storm LUPIT made landfall near Shantou City (Guangdong Province, south-eastern China) early on 5 August, with maximum sustained winds up to 85 km/h.
  • National emergency response teams have been deployed to assist with flood control.
  • LUPIT is forecast to weaken, as it passes north of Xiamen City (Fujian Province, Strait of Taiwan), early on 6 July, with maximum sustained winds between 55-65 km/h, before moving north-east, reaching the northern Strait of Taiwan early on 8 August.
  • The Chinese Meteorological Agency (CMA) has issued blue and yellow typhoon warnings for coastal areas from Shantou to Xiamen cities. Warnings for extremely heavy rain have been issued for southern Taiwan, as reported by the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

  • Tropical storm LUPIT is moving north-east, crossing the central coastal area of Fujian (southeastern China) and on 6 August at 0.00 UTC, its centre was over Quanzhou City, with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h.
  • According to media reports, thousands of people have been evacuated across the provinces of Guangdong and Fujian.
  • LUPIT is forecast to continue moving north-east passing close to the north-western coast of Taiwan on 7 August before moving across the East China sea and could make landfall over southern Kyushu Island (southern Japan) on 9 August.
  • Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast over northeastern Fujian and Taiwan, while a yellow warning for rainstorm and geological hazard is in effect for the aforementioned areas.

  • Tropical Storm LUPIT made landfall over southern Kyushu Island on 8 August. On 9 August at 0.00 UTC, its centre was 20 km south of Kotoura Town (south-eastern Honshu, southern Japan), with maximum sustained winds of 102 km/h.
  • According to media reports, evacuation orders have been issued for more than 290,000 residents across Hiroshima, Shimane, Ehime, Fukuoka, and Kagoshima prefectures. Dozens of flights have been cancelled. In Taiwan, there have been widespread floods and landslides and reports of a collapsed bridge.
  • LUPIT is forecast to move north-west over the Sea of Japan before crossing northern Honshu and the north-western Pacific Ocean.
  • Heavy rain, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over south-eastern and western Honshu and northern Kyushu. Heavy rain warnings are in effect over most parts of southeastern Honshu.
