  • Tropical Cyclone THIRTEEN, formed over the southern Caribbean Sea on 6 October, crossed the Paraguaná Peninsula (north-western Venezuela) and is moving towards the Guajira Peninsula (north-eastern Colombia). On 7 October at 6.00 UTC, its centre was located about 200 km north-east of Maracaibo (north-western Venezuela), and about 75 km east of the eastern coast of Guajira Peninsula, with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h (tropical depression).
  • THIRTEEN is forecast to pass close to the coast of northwestern Venezuela and the Guajira Peninsula on the morning of 7 October. After that, it will move across the southwestern Caribbean Sea close to San Andres and Providencia Islands on 8 October, and approach the coast of Nicaragua on 9 October.
  • For the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast over northern coastal Venezuela, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, north-eastern Colombia (including San Andres and Providencia Islands), eastern and central Nicaragua, southwest Costa Rica and southwestern Panama.
  • A hurricane watch is in effect for San Andres, Providencia, and Santa Catalina Islands (Colombia) while a tropical storm warning has been issued for the coast of Colombia from Riohacha eastward to the Colombia/Venezuela border.

  • After passing over the Colombian archipelago of San Andrés and Providencia without casualties, hurricane JULIA made landfall on the morning of 9 October near Laguna de Perlas, on the central coast of eastern Nicaragua, as a Cat. 1 Hurricane. After that, JULIA weakened to a tropical storm.  
  • According to media, heavy rainfall and strong winds have been affecting Nicaragua and neighbouring Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Panama. In Honduras, three people died and more than 6,000 people were evacuated due to floods, river overflow, and landslides.
  • In Nicaragua, more than 13,000 families have been evacuated, about 800 houses have been flooded, and power outages affected about 1 million residents. At least 300 people have been evacuated due to floods in Costa Rica, while a number of families have been displaced to temporary shelters in El Salvador. 
  • On 10 October, JULIA is expected to continue moving along the Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala pacific coast, slightly weakening. Heavy rainfall will continue to affect Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Panama throughout 11 October.
