  • The Calf Canyon/Hermit's Peak wildfire has been burning since the beginning of May across the Counties of San Miguel and Mora in northern New Mexico State (south-western USA), affecting an area of approximately 128,660 ha. 
  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reports that 115 people have been injured, and around 1,000 buildings have been destroyed or damaged by the wildfire. The wildfire event is located about 20 km north-west of Las Vegas City (San Miguel County), and evacuation orders have been issued for more than 27,000 people. 
  • According to the US Incident Information System, as of 7 June, the wildfire event is 65% contained, while severe drought, high temperatures, and strong winds have been affecting the area. 
  • The fire danger forecast over the areas where the wildfire is active is from very high to extreme on 7 June, and mostly moderate on 8 June, according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS).
