Pakistan - Monsoon rain update (ECHO 13 Aug 2019)Tue, 13 Aug 2019 13:08

  • Monsoon rains have flooded several districts of Sindh Province (south-eastern Pakistan), leading to 26 deaths and 4 injured between 9-12 August according to the national authorities. Torrential rain also contibuted to 7 deaths of in Punjab.
  • Several areas are still flooded in Karachi, hampering search and rescue operations. At least 128 people have been evacuated to a relief camp in Matiari City.
  • Heavy rainfall, with strong winds and thunderstorms will continue to affect most of Pakistan over 13-14 August.
North-eastern India (Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura and Mizoram) and western India (Maharashtra, particularly the Mumbai area) monsoon rainsIn Assam 300,000 people across 30 out of the 33 districts are affected by floods. 30 have died and 80,000 are sheltering in 494 camps. In Bihar 33 have died and up to 2.5 million people have been affected. In Mizoram 1,000 families were evacuated after the Khawthlangtuipui river flooded 32 villages in Lunglei District and five were killed. Two more deaths were reported in Tripura and 18,000 people are sheltering in 61 camps. In Uttar Pradesh, the death toll stands at 14.
