Indonesia - Floods update Tue, 03 Mar 2020 10:41

  • Following the widespread floods triggered by heavy rainfall over the last week, several provinces in Java (Jakarta, West Java and Banten) are still inundated.
  • According to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), as of 3 March, 4,140 people have been displaced in Karawang Regency (West Java Province), 677 in Tangerang Regency (Banten Province) and 65 in East Jakarta administrative city.  
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms is forecast across the affected provinces.
  • Since January 2020, hundreds of natural events occurred in the country leading to 122 fatalities (102 due to floods, 16 to landslides and 4 to tornadoes), 2 missing people and more than 1.4 million displaced.

  • Heavy rain and strong winds continue to affect several parts of the country, triggering widespread floods and leading to casualties and damage.
  • According to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), as of 9 March, 106 people have been affected and 24 displaced in Semarang City (Central Java Province). Floods have been reported also in West Papua Province with 150 people  affected. A tornado in Ambarawa Town (Central Java) injured one person and damaged several houses.
  • More heavy rain is expected in the next 24 hours across most of the affected provinces.
Sulawesi, Indonesia, March 2020BNPB reported flooding in Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi, and also in North Bolaang Mongondow Regency, North Sulawesi, on 03 March 2020. One person died and around 3,900 were displaced. At least 900 people were displaced in Poso Regency after around 70 homes were damaged or destroyed. 1 person is missing. Full damage assessments are yet to be completed for North Bolaang Mongondow Regency, although no fatalities were reported as of 04 March. Around 170 people were affected and 5 displaced after flash floods in Tibawa District, Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo Province, Indonesia on 06 March, 2020, according to BNPB.Mon 2 Mar 2020FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
