Luxembourg, July 2021Luxembourg saw flooding after heavy rain on 14 July 2021 along with other countries in western Europe (Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, all reported separately). Fire and rescue service CGDIS (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de secours) said Born, Steinheim, Rosport and Echternach were the worst affected. After initially warning residents in affected areas to stay in their homes, 150 people were evacuated in Echternach, situated on the Sauer / Sûre river on the border with Germany. Evacuations were also reported in Rosport and a small number in Vianden. CGDIS and Police teams carried out more than 1,200 weather-related interventions across the country on 15 July. No injuries or fatalities were reported. However the government's crisis info service, Infocrise, said material damage is significant. Meteo Lux reported torrential rains broke two records for the month of July at the weather station at Luxembourg-Findel Airport. The maximum precipitation in 12 hours and 24 hours reached accumulations of 74.2 mm and 79.4 mm, beating the previous records set on 22 July 2016 of 60.4 mm / 70.6 mm.Mon 19 Jul 2021FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
