  • Northern California (western USA) continues to be affected by strong winds, heavy rainfall, and thunderstorms, resulting in casualties, evacuations, and damage.
  • According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the number of fatalities due to storm-related incidents has increased to three, 105 others have been sheltered, and more than 2,500 are under mandatory evacuations in Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties (California State).
  • For the next 24 hours, strong winds and moderate to heavy rainfall with localised thunderstorms are forecast over most parts of California.
  • Strong wind warnings are in effect for northern and western California.

  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds, thunderstorms continue to affect northern-central California and western Nevada since early January, causing floods, mudslides, and a number of severe weather-related incidents (particularly due to strong winds) that have resulted in an increased number of casualties.
  • The affected counties in California are: Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, Monterey, Yolo, Sacramento, El Dorado, Yuba, Mendocino, Tuolumne, Calaveras, San Joaquin, Humboldt, and Sutter.
  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reports, as of 8 January, 11 confirmed fatalities, 370 currently evacuated people in 13 shelters, a number of closed schools and roads, and several power outages across the affected counties.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms are forecast over most of California and the whole of Nevada. NOAA has issued high wind warnings and winter storm warnings for several counties in California.

  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds, thunderstorms, heavy snowfall and hailstorms continue to affect most of California and the neighbouring western Nevada since early January, causing floods, landslides, and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in an increased number of casualties.
  • Currently, the worst affected counties in California are: Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Sacramento, Solano, Stanislaus and Los Angeles. The Government of California declared the state of emergency.
  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reports, as of 10 January, 14 confirmed fatalities, 236 currently evacuated people in 15 shelters, a number of closed schools, several closed roads and approximately 30,000 power outages across the affected counties. In addition, FEMA reports around 52,000 evacuation orders across Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Sacramento, and Solano counties. Furthermore, the Santa Barbara airport were reported closed.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast over central and northern California and western Nevada. NOAA has issued winter storm warnings for several counties in California.
