  • An earthquake of 6.4 ML at the depth of 9.1 km according to the Institute of Geodynamics of Greece occurred in the Ionian Sea (western Greece) on 25 October at 22:54 UTC. The epicentre was located 45 km south-west of Zakynthos Town (Zakynthos Island). Shaking was estimated to be up to very strong for 5 000 people and strong for 52 000 people.
  • The earthquake triggered a small tsunami detected by several sea-level instruments in the area (0.09 m in Kyparissia and Crotone, 0.06 m in Le Castella). The European Commission's Joint Research Centre is closely monitoring the situation.
  • As of 26 October, there are no reports of casualties. Some minor damage was sustained to port infrastructure in Zakynthos, there have been problems in the electricity network and small localised landslides.
