  • An earthquake of 5.7 M at a depth of 10 km occurred in the Sea of Marmara on 26 September at 10.59 UTC. The epicentre was approximately 21 km south of Silivri City (Marmara Region, Istanbul Province), and 69 km south-west of Istanbul City.
  • Two significant aftershocks of 4.4 and 4.3 M have been recorded. USGS PAGER estimates that up to 123,000 people were exposed to strong shaking.
  • According to media reports, as of 27 September, eight people have been slightly injured and some buildings have been damaged. In addition, media report the collapse of the top section of a minaret at the central mosque of Istanbul in the Avcilar District.
