  • An earthquake of 5.8 M at a depth of 31 km occurred 20 km off the coast of Elqui Province (Coquimbo Region, central-western Chile) on 2 May at 06.57 UTC (02.57 local time). The epicentre was offshore approximately 40 km south-west of the coastal city of La Serena (Elqui Province).
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 318,000 people were exposed to strong shaking.
  • According to media, there have been no reports of damage or casualties as a result of the seismic event.
