  • The seismic activity in eastern Mindanao continues, and on 7 March at 6.02 UTC (14.02 local time), a 6.0 M earthquake (5.9 M for PHIVOLCS) at a depth of 39 km has been recorded. The epicentre is located approximately 18 km west-southwest of the 5.4 M that occurred on 5 March and 14 km south-west of New Bataan Town (Davao de Oro Province, Davao Region).
  • USGS estimates that up to 31,000 people were exposed to strong shaking.
  • According to media, there are no immediate news of any casualties or damage. In addition, the Philippines News Agency (PNA) reported landslides, and cracks induced by the earthquake in Maragusan Town while part of the Maragusan-New Bataan road collapsed due to the seismic activity in the area.

  • Since 5 March (UTC), Davao de Oro Province, located in Davao Region (eastern Mindanao), is experiencing an intense seismic activity, the strongest reported earthquakes measured 6.0 M (on 7 March), 5.6 M (on 7 March) and 5.4 M (on 5 March UTC).
  • The Local Government Unit and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) have provided initial assistance and continue assessing impact and damage.
  • On 8-9 March, around 122 aftershocks with magnitude up to 4.4 M have been recorded by PHIVOLCS in Davao de Oro and neighboring provinces. As more aftershocks are expected, families are advised to stay outside their houses. 
  • According to the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DSWD-DROMIC), 11,228 people have been displaced across three Municipalities of the Province, of which more than 10,000 have been sheltered in nine evacuation centres.  
  • The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has recommended a declaration of state of calamity to facilitate rapid needs assessment and immediate humanitarian assistance. DG ECHO partners continue to monitor the situation.
