  • An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 at a depth of 35 km occurred in the far north of Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan and China, on 19 January at 6:21 UTC (11:21 local time). The epicentre was located in the north-western Kashmir region (the part administered by India), approximately 47 km north-west of the Barshal Town. USGS PAGER estimates that up to 1 000 people were exposed to moderate shaking.
  • Media report, as of 20 January, two fatalities, two injured people and around ten damaged houses (mainly due to induced landslides) in the area near the epicentre. The event was felt across the Gilgit-Baltistan and Jammu and Kashmir regions.
