  • Heavy rainfall continues to affect southwestern and central China (particularly Yunnan, and Hubei Provinces) since 27 June, causing rivers to overflow and triggering floods, that have resulted in casualties and widespread damage.
  • In Yunnan Province, media report, as of 2 July, three fatalities, one person still missing, around 90,000 affected people, eight damaged houses, as well as a number of transportations disruptions,  telecommunications interruptions, and power outages across the area of the Zhaotong City. In addition, approximately 25,800 affected people and dozens of flooded houses were reported across the Chongqing megacity.
  • In Hubei Province, media also report around 1.2 million affected people, approximately 9,700 evacuated people, and more than 2,700 damaged houses (of which 478 collapsed).
  • Over the next 24 hours, according to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), more heavy rainfall is forecast over the whole southern and China, with locally very heavy rainfall over central and southwestern Provinces.

  • Since 6 July, heavy rain continues to affect east China (particularly the Jiangxi, the Zhejiang, and the Anhui Provinces), causing rivers to overflow and triggering floods, that have resulted in widespread damage.
  • Media report, as of 9 July, approximately 399,000 affected and more than 18,500 relocated people across the Jiujiang Prefecture (Jiangxi Province).
  • The Ministry of Emergency Management dispatched several work teams to various Provinces, including around 25,220 emergency rescue and relief workers to assist those affected across the Jiangxi Province.
  • Over the next 24 hours, according to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), more heavy rain is forecast over most of the country. Locally very heavy rain is forecast over central and estern Provinces (including Jiangxi, Zhejiang, and Anhui), as well as over part of the northern Province of Inner Mongolia.

  • Since 7 July, heavy rain continues to affect eastern China (particularly the neighbouring Provinces of Jiangxi, Anhui, and Jiangsu), causing rivers to overflow (in particular the Yangtze River) and the Lake Poyang very high water level, triggering floods that have resulted in widespread damage.
  • In Jiangxi Province, media report as of 13 July, around 5.2 million affected people,  432,000 evacuated, 154,000 people in urgent need of living assistance, and almost 1,000 damaged houses. In the Anhui Province, more than 260,000 people were reported affected and approximately 3,200 evacuated in 88 temporary relocation sites.
  • Over the next 24 hours, according to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), more heavy rain is forecast over central, western, and eastern China. Locally very heavy rain is forecast over southwestern and eastern Provinces, including the already affected ones.

  • Heavy rainfall continues to affect eastern, central, and southern China (particularly Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Zhejiang, and Sichuan Provinces) since the beginning of the rainy season (first half of June), causing river overflow and triggering severe floods that have resulted in casualties and widespread damage.
  • According to media, as of 14 July, more than 140 fatalities or people still missing, around 37.9 million affected people, and over 2,240,00 evacuated people across the aforementioned Provinces.
  • In Hubei Province, media report 14 fatalities (of which eight due to a landslide occurred in the Huangmei County), five missing people, and over 9 million affected people. In Jiangxi Province, 5.5 million people were reportedly affected, around 500,000 avacuated, and approximately 1,000 houses destroyed. In Anhui Province, media report four fatalities, 3,200 evacuated people, and 2.15 million affected people. In addition, according to media, several roads destroyed across the Sichuan Province.
  • Over the next 24 hours, according to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), more heavy rainfall is forecast over central, western, and eastern China. Locally very heavy rainfall is also forecast over central-western Provinces.
Hunan, China, July 2020As of 08 July, rain and flooding since late June has affected more than 956,000 people and destroyed hundreds of houses in central Hunan province, according to local authorities quoted by news agency Xinhua.
